Clear: The ADD Friendly ToDo List

Recently I have fallen in love with a ToDo list.

I hope this won't be too embarrassing for you, but I have taken it out on dates. In fact, I take it everywhere with me. I even sleep with it. Now, now. I realize I can't marry it?yet?but we are truly inseparable.

A good ToDo list gets out of your way and just lets you write things down. Anything that tries to improve too much beyond the pen and paper paradigm becomes a different beast entirely. That's not to say that ToDo apps with recurring ToDos and alarms and Swedish foot massage are bad. I like getting my feet rubbed, but sometimes I find the overhead on those more powerful but complicated apps makes me put off using the app. Any app that ends up encouraging an ADHD person to rely on his memory instead is not one I can recommend.

That being said, I find that simple ToDo list apps are rather boring. Look at Apple's no frills Reminders. It's clean. It's nice. It's dull. Then along came Clear.

The first thing I noticed about Clear was its interface. I was wowed. It was elegant, simple, and functional. All the slick finger gestures you've come to expect from an iPhone app are present. If you watched the video, you can see that tapping, swiping, and pinching are all put to full effect. Swipe right to clear. Swipe right to delete. Pull the list down to create a new item. Pull the list up to clear finished items. Pinch apart to create an item in between two existing ones. Pinch closed to collapse the list and move to a higher menu. Tap on text to edit. Tap and hold to move the task around in the list. None of these gestures are strangers to the regular iPhone user. Once you memorize what each gesture does, you'll be amazed at how easy the app is to use. (Definitely take time to go through their sample list.)

But does it work?

Yes, but simply telling you that Clear is a functional task manager is like trying to prove a Ferrari is a good car by pointing out that it has good tires. Clear stands out not just with the bells and whistles, but from its design concept from the ground up. Here are a few of my favorite features:

Pinch apart to create a task!
  1. As pointed out before, the clean design and UI elements make this app elegant to look at and use. The text is beautiful. The colors are pleasing to the eye. There are no buttons, boxes, or widgets to clutter the screen. Considering the mess most of my ToDo lists become, this is an added benefit.
  2. Clear features sound effects to provide audible confirmation to actions. People who find this annoying can turn it off in the app settings, but others such as myself will enjoy this added reward for productivity. Besides, I just know they'll be adding Star Trek sound effects as an Easter egg one day soon. Then I'll truly be living in the future.
  3. A recent update added Shake to undo quickly corrects accidents. The same update also let folks have tasks longer than 24 characters. I appreciate the clean look that 24 character tasks gave the app, but it was nice to see the devs respond to user requests and add these two features.
  4. One fun aspect of the app is the multiple color themes provided for variety. More on that in a moment.
  5. Each new list begins with an inspiring quote. Each cleared list rewards you with another. I like that extra touch, though I don't often see the reward; my lists never end.
  6. My favorite geeky ToDo list feature is the "Active List Count for Badge" setting. If you are like me, you have half a billion lists, but only one that you are actively using. Yet the app's badge shows a count for ALL TOTAL TASKS. Nothing is more daunting than seeing 547 in read hovering above the "Let's get things done today! W00t!!" app of your choice. Clear gives you the option of only displaying in the badge the number of tasks in your currently selected list. I love, love, love this feature.
One flaw I have discovered in the Clear method is when one wants to move a task from one list to another. There is no way to do that easily. Instead, one must cut & paste from one list to the next. At the end of a busy day with multiple tasks uncleared, this can be a wee bit tiresome. It's not overly complicated, and I have it down pat now, but it is a bit tedious. I'd like to see a two finger hold and move operation implemented that let me move a task from one list to the next. Or tap and hold the task to the top of the list, then wait for the list menu to appear.

Still, there is so much about this app that pleases. Simplicity and interest is a powerful combo for an ADHD mind. Aside from sound effects, Clear has more than the usual variety of color schemes to keep the app feeling new to me ? something that I have found is key to sticking with any task manager system. Such a simple feature, yet not offered in most of the task managers that I have used. At first, I just played with the different themes until I found one I liked, but soon I discovered that I could avoid ADHD boredom by simply picking a new theme every few days. When I discovered that there were secret themes built into the app that one could unlock, I was hooked. The latest update added even more secret themes, some unlocked by using features in the app, and some linked to other apps as a form of promotion.

I will be honest with you. If you are looking for a powerful task manager with priorities, due dates, repeating ToDos, and Swedish massage, Clear is not going to be an app you will enjoy using. However, if you want a ToDo list app that builds on the simple pen & paper version but with intuitive, modern features, then you owe it to yourself to check out Clear.

Since I am currently unemployed, any support you folks can send my way will be very appreciated by my daughters and I. I write without pay here for the love of it and because I know many of you find what I write useful. Please donate, leave comments, or share this blog. Let me know I?m not whistling into the wind. And thanks for all the support you have given me in the past. I appreciate it all.

A Mindful Way Through Procrastination

In 2007 Piers Steel from the University of Calgary wrote an article for the Psychological Bulletin looking at the nature of procrastination. He found that in 1978 5% of people admitted to being chronic procrastinators and today that number has jumped to 26% where people will do anything to avoid having to deal with something until they have "absolutely no choice." What is it about procrastination that makes it so prevalent and what can we do about it?

Strikeforce's Nate Marquardt sick of answering TRT questions

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Nate_Marquardt_180_6.jpg
"It's one of those things, it's been challenging. I've had to find a lot of ways to combat it. I've had to change my training schedule, but the bottom line is I'm training hard, I feel great. I've felt like this before in training and done awesome... I just want to move past that point in my life. I mean, I'm so sick of answering TRT questions, to be honest. You would think the media would want to talk about something new, anyway. It's kind of old news. I've got a title fight coming up, and I feel great, and that's the bottom line."

-Nate Marquardt talked about life without testosterone replacement therapy this week during a conference call for his Strikeforce Welterweight Title bout with Tyron Woodley next month (transcribed by MMAFighting.com).

Penick's Analysis: Marquardt's going to get questioned about it incessantly because it's the biggest story of his career. He attempted to get a therapeutic use exemption for the treatment, got one under a conditional basis and didn't uphold the requirements of the exemption, which in turn led to being removed from an event the day before and then getting booted from the UFC. The fact that he is now off a treatment which, by most accounts, he was supposed to be on for life if he got on it in the first place. That's a questionable series of events. He's trying to move on past it with this fight, but it's going to remain on the minds of many for some time.

MMA Marketplace: Rich Franklin?s not-awful UFC 147 Affliction walkout shirt

Among the companies who sponsor fighters and make MMA clothing, Affliction is at the bottom of the ladder. Its clothes are usually badly designed and overpriced, but with their shirt for Rich Franklin for UFC 147, they did alright.

It's a cool, aviator nod to his nickname "Ace," and though a skull is used, it's not overdone. It's still ridiculously overpriced at $57.95, but at least it's not ugly and overpriced.

Writing with Focus When Depression Clouds the View

Checkity check!

Life has been tough lately. (I know, somebody call the Waaahmbulance.)

So if I told you that I haven't been writing, you might not be surprised. I'm currently unemployed, dealing with crushing Depression, and still recovering from being divorced. (Yeah, it's been seven months. No, I'm not over it yet. Let's see you get over the end of a 23 year marriage quickly. No, please, show me. I'd really like to know how.) But the fact is that I have been writing. My problem has been that I'm writing too many things.

You know me. I'm Mr. Too Many Irons in the Fire. It's my Wampanoag Indian surname. I'm sure my ancient Sachem ancestor would be proud of me. (Actually, I would love to know what that name was in Wampanoag. Too bad the colonials stamped out Wampanoag culture after King Phillip's War.)

Anyway, where were we? Mr. Too Many Irons in the Fire. I have one finished middle grade novel, another on the back burner, three or four finished picture book manuscripts, several short story ideas, a cool kid detective story that has been burning in my mind, and the desire to write an ADHD eBook based in part on my escapades as an ADHD expert. (Oh, have I been holding out on you. I've got a story so horrifyingly typical of ADHD that it is being saved for the book.) I've got a few hundred ideas and no time to write them. When you flit from project to project like a butterfly hopped up on nectar, you don't get anything finished.

So I spent last Monday making THE DECISION. I can't do it all, and I work best one idea at a time, so which idea was it going to be? Was I going to rewrite my middle grade novel about the singing cat? Was I going to write that dark fantasy short story? Was I going to start the kid detective project which would require one new story being released per month with illustrations? (I never said the ideas were realistic?) Or was I going to write that ADHD eBook?

After an agonizing few hours of sorting pros from cons, I decided to write the ADHD eBook. It seemed the easiest project to do because its writing style would be an extension of what I was already doing here. Also, I needed to focus in on getting a paying gig somewhere and that eBook seemed the project least likely to distract me.

Do you know what happened? Once I made that decision, I created a todo list and started checking things off that very night. I've been steadily working on the eBook all week. I cannot believe how much progress I have made. Today I created the eBook's outline by chapter, and next week I start researching this blog for stories. (Follow along on Twitter and you might be able to help out.) The eBook is happening.

Now that I have focus, I am very surprised how little focus I had before. I see that Depression clouded my mind, keeping me down and unproductive. Again, I find the impact of the divorce far more reaching and disruptive than I anticipated. So many coping strategies forgotten by the wayside? I am glad that I have spent the past twenty years learning how to regulate my mind. I pulled from those experiences as soon as I was able. Maybe in a shorter time than I think I will find myself "over it" and well adapted to single life.

Just in case I have a relapse or two, I have "hired" on a friend to help. I created an online todo project over at Producteev and made him a teammate. He checks the list daily and looks to see that I've been busy. I don't want him to hold my hand, so he has been instructed to prod me only if he doesn't see any activity after three days. That gives me plenty of opportunity to overcome my Depression or ADHD fog all on my own. I'm hoping the system works.

If you are struggling to accomplish your goals, maybe you have too many of them. Pick one goal to work on, and get a friend or family member to help you stay on track. It's bound to help you feel better about yourself, and you may even finish the goal faster than you imagined. But start by picking that ONE project to work on. Good luck!

Brett Rogers signs with Bellator after losing streak and assault arrest

Brett Rogers started his career with 10 wins, and followed it with four losses, one win, a no contest, an assault arrest stemming from a domestic abuse incident and a jail sentence of 60 days. Now, he's looking to start over again by signing with Bellator.

"Over the past year I have been challenged in my personal life, but all is now good in the Rogers family," Rogers said via a Bellator press release. "Everyone makes mistakes in life but it's how you recover that really counts. I spend every day with my wife and kids and enjoy every minute of it. Fighting is my job and I love it, but I also love my family and that's why I made things right before returning to the cage. All I can say is get ready for a new and improved Brett Rogers."

Rogers' last win came in October of 2010 over Ruben Villareal. After that, he dropped bouts to Josh Barnett and Eddie Sanchez. The no-contest comes from a February bout. He also has losses to Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem, and his biggest win came over Andrei Arlovski in June of 2009.

He will debut at Bellator 71 on June 22. An opponent has not been named.

Clay Guida still feels Gray Maynard game plan "played out perfectly" at UFC on FX 4

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Clay_Guida_180_3.jpg
Despite a widespread criticism of his performance at UFC on FX 4 last week, Clay Guida continues to see nothing wrong with the way he fought Gray Maynard in Sunrise, Fla. His strategy in the fight was to avoid the attacks from Maynard, and avoid getting into a firefight or grappling battle with a superior wrestler and harder hitter.

That strategy technically worked, as he didn't suffer much damage in the fight, but he seemed to forget the offensive component of the fight, as his avoidance led to very little action in the first three rounds, and turned the crowd against him. Still, Guida remains unapologetic for how he performed, and vehemently disagrees with the criticism aimed his way.

"I thought the game plan and strategy we came up with, I thought it played out perfectly, almost too good as a matter of fact," Guida said in an interview with "Inside the Cage" on ESPN 760 in West Palm Beach, Fla.. "Yeah, we could have landed a couple more combinations here, we could have gotten into wrestling a little bit more, but Gray is a very dominant wrestler. He's a very good counter wrestler, too. I've only seen him be taken down once, maybe twice, in the UFC, and that was by Frankie Edgar, and was just for a brief moment."

"I thought we did enough to stop his wrestling. He gave us his best double leg blast takedown that no one stopped in the UFC and in his mixed martial arts career. We stuffed it on numerous occasions. We stood him up. We landed the two and three punch combinations. We stunned him with kicks. He was swinging and missing like Sammy Sosa in one of his worst slumps. We left him frustrated. We left him with a face of desperation when he was flipping me off and cursing me and dropping 'f-bombs' in the cage. Need I go on?"

It was here that Guida began to get a bit indignant and petulant about the entire fight, launching into a tirade about how the fight played out and the way the judges scored the fight.

"Yes, I can still go on," he continued. Let's see. Oh yeah, I defended the submission. I got to half guard and I passed his guard. Oh, did I mention I stopped his takedowns? Yeah, I stopped his takedowns. I kicked him in the face three or four times cleanly. I rocked him in the fifth round. Let's see, what else? Oh yeah, did I say that we were more elusive than he's probably seen any opponent? Oh yeah, how about the time I moved and he ran face first into the cage. Need I go on? Let's see. Oh, the judges. Yeah, the three blind mice. Yeah, they definitely got paid for their job that night. They did a hell of a job. I want to commend them and the New Jersey Athletic Commission for blowing another [one], taking someone's victory."

But it wasn't just the judges or the fans coming down hard on his performance, as UFC President Dana White was vocal in his opposition to the gameplan. He even stated that Guida's performance was similar to that of Kalib Starnes in his infamous bout with Nate Quarry. Needless to say, Guida wasn't in line with the criticism.

"Yeah, I wasn't very thrilled about it, but I spoke with Dana Sunday after the fight, after I watched it and we kind of hashed things out," Guida said. "As far as how I thought [I did], I won pretty much each round. I can maybe see it 3-2 somehow for me, but I thought it was 4-1. I thought we almost pulled the shutout on him."

Penick's Analysis: I've gone over this already this week, but the major issue with the performance was the lack of offense to go along with a smart defensive strategy. Guida couldn't go punch for punch with Maynard and survive. Likewise, had he engaged in a grappling bout instead of playing solely defense it wouldn't have been a smart strategy for him either. He wasn't going to be able to beat Maynard unless he completely avoided damage throughout the fight and found a way to get in offense himself. Unfortunately, he only accomplished one part of that plan, despite his protestations to the contrary. You can just look at the numbers to see the issue. Through the first three rounds of the fight, Guida landed a combined total of 24 strikes. For comparison's sake, in the fight many tried to equate this performance to in Carlos Condit's win over Nick Diaz, Condit landed more strikes in the first round than Guida did in the first three. Not only that, but Condit had landed more strikes through two rounds of his fight with Diaz than Guida did the entire fight with Maynard. This wasn't a good performance, and he needs to get it out of his head that it was. He had a solid defensive gameplan, but didn't do anything else to claim the fight decisively.

Rashad Evans Shows Interest In Moving To MW To Fight Anderson Silva

By <a href="mailto:howie@mmanews.com">Chris Howie</a> <Br>
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer<Br><Br>

After losing in his bid to take the UFC Light Heavyweight Title away from Jon Jones, Rashad Evans may be looking at other avenues to take his fighting career and discussed the middleweight division with ProMMANow.com this week.<Br><Br>

?I thought about (moving to middleweight), then I thought about how hard that weight cut is. I used to wrestle at 174 in college, I would cut so much weight on a continuous basis and I was like, ?You know what? If I ever have to compete again, I?m not cutting weight like that?. Because what ends up happening is, the philosophy is, ?Oh well you go down to a lower weight and you?ll be stronger?. Not necessarily.<br><Br>

Some people go down to a lower weight and they?re actually weaker, and I felt like when I was the best athlete I could be in college wrestling, is when I wrestled to my natural weight. So that?s what I try to do in fighting, I try to compete at my natural weight. I may go to 185 and not be the same fighter because I?m maybe cutting too much weight.?<br><Br>

?Anderson (Silva) is somebody I would love to fight because when it?s all said and done, whether you win or lose, to compete against the best in the sport is really what it?s all about. You know, if I can walk away from my career and say I competed against some of the best in the sport in my time and era, then I can wrap up and say I had a really great career. So if the opportunity comes, and that fight happens, yeah I would drop to 185 to fight.?<br><Br>

Strikeforce "Rousey vs. Kaufman" adds Souza-Brunson and Bowling-Saffiedine

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

MMATorchAvatar2011V2_180_97.jpg
Strikforce's August 18 event in San Diego is beginning to take shape with the official announcement of two more fights for the event. On Thursday, Strikeforce officials confirmed that former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will take on Derek Brunson, and welterweights Tarec Saffiedine and Roger Bowling will square off as well.

Souza returned to action in March for the first time since losing his title last September, and he picked up a fairly easy win over late replacement opponent Bristol Marunde. Brunson was actually going to get that fight, but the Ohio athletic commission wouldn't approve him medically due to poor vision and a rule disallowing contact lenses. His next move was to undergo Lasik surgery, and now he's getting his opportunity again against Souza.

Saffiedine has won three of his four appearances in Strikeforce, losing only by decision to Tyron Woodley. He brings a 12-3 record into this fight, and has won five of his last six, including two straight. Bowling has won three of four, including two straight himself. Most recently, he defeated the now-infamous Brandon Saling at the March event.

The August 18 event takes place from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif., headlined by a Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Championship bout between Ronda Rousey and Sarah Kaufman.

Fabricio Werdum, Cub Swanson and Rich Franklin: Three stars from a full weekend of MMA

After a UFC double-header, who stuck out as the best from UFC on FX 4 and UFC 147? Read on for Cagewriter's picks, and write yours in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

No. 1 star -- Fabricio Werdum: The former Strikeforce heavyweight is 2-0 since rejoining the UFC. Though his jiu-jitsu is feared, he showed against Mike Russow he can strike with the best of the division, finishing a fighter who had never been knocked out before.

No. 2 star -- Cub Swanson: We've heard of the potential of Swanson for years, but injury often got in his way. Swanson showed he was more than just potential as he took out Ross Pearson with a punishing TKO, his second straight TKO win.

No. 3 star -- Rich Franklin: After proving his company man status once again, stepping in for the injured Vitor Belfort, Franklin won an exciting five-rounder against fellow legend Wanderlei Silva. Afterwards, he charmed the Brazilian crowd by speaking Portuguese to them. You can't ask for much more from a fighter.

Terry Etim injured, out of UFC on Fox 4 bout with Joe Lauzon

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Terry Etim continues to find himself on the sidelines, as he's suffered another injury that has taken him out of a fight with Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4. Etim had hoped to bounce back from a vicious knockout loss to Edson Barboza in January, but he'll once again be delayed.

Etim's had lengthy layoffs before in his career, with a 19-month layoff hitting him after an April 2010 loss. He'll hope this layoff is considerably shorter.

Lauzon is likely to remain on the card, though no opponent has yet been named for the event. He's also looking to bounce back from a knockout loss, his coming against Anthony Pettis at UFC 144 in February.

Musing Monday: Too Hot To Think

Driving with the windows down and breeze in your hair sounds like a perfect, summery thing to do unless the inside of your minivan is a toasty 101F. Then the open window is as vital as breath. My minivan was so hot today that I felt as if I was riding a fireball along I-15 with a trail of vapor and smoke behind me.

So why didn't I put on the air conditioner?

I'm still in between jobs and trying to stretch the miles I get per gallon. The furnace on wheels was a necessary evil, though it fried my brain.

Today's errand was whisking my Leprechaun across the valley to have her braces tightened. I found a couch by a window down the hall and around the corner. It's normally a busy corner to camp out in because it is right by the elevator, but most people had the good sense to stay indoors today, so the hallway was silent and untravelled.

I used my TrueHDR app to take a picture of the indoors and the outdoors and sent a tweet out into the world, then got busy thinking about the next phase of my ADHD book. Braces tightened, the future set, we climbed back into minivan. The trip back in the furnace did me in, however. I was a pile of molten goo by the time I made it back to my apartment. It's taken me several hours to recover. I'm going to need to load up on Slurpees next time I take that fireball for another ride.

Now it is time to write and write and write. To jumpstart my noodle I am going to base today's creative writing exercise on the photo I took. Who's looking out the window and what are they thinking? Yes, yes. Let's pretend it's not me:

Amanda liked to taunt me. She delighted in it really. She had moved the fake tree in the day after I was confined to this room, laughing the whole time. Now every time I looked out to see the trees, I had to look past Amanda's gift. It hung over me while I was trapped here in bed, everything bound and wrapped. Even my mouth was in traction.

Mother had tried to soothe me. "Jennika, darling. Amanda is just trying to help you feel comfortable. You mustn't fuss so." Of course Mother would think that. Amanda could do no wrong. I didn't have the energy to argue with her. I didn't have the jaw movement, either.

Mother simply didn't understand that the tree was not meant to make me feel comfortable. It was the very tree I had hid behind when watching Amanda kiss my boyfriend. At least when Kincade noticed me he had the decency to look embarrassed, but Amanda just laughed. It tinkled in that musical way I used to envy, but today it felt like shards of broken glass in my heart. Then I ran. I pushed over the tree, then I pushed past people, doors, and bicyclists. I'd have pushed past the car if it hadn't been so much heavier than me.

Leave your writing exercise below.

Vitor Belfort has strong feelings on shaving

Vitor Belfort missed out on the chance to fight in front of a home crowd over the weekend, as he had to pull out from his bout with Wanderlei Silva because of an injury. However, he is not going to miss on the chance to tell fellow Brazilians how to shave.

In other Belfort news, the UFC is still hoping for a fight between Belfort and Silva, and they are aiming for an October show in Brazil. However, Belfort doesn't think that fight makes sense and would rather fight Michael Bisping, and then get another shot at the UFC middleweight belt. He's also open to moving to light heavyweight, and he isn't afraid of Jon Jones.

Consider this your daily Vitor Belfort briefing. You are now briefed.

Thanks, Fightlinker.

Anderson Silva tells of plans to break Chael Sonnen?s face

Through the scads of trash talk Chael Sonnen has spewed since his last bout with Anderson Silva, the UFC middleweight champ has stayed mostly silent. Sure, he'd answer back from time to time, but for the most part, Silva let Sonnen do the heavy lifting in the trash talk department.

That ended Monday when Silva erupted during the UFC 148 media conference call. Listen to the call above. Silva starts speaking at the 6:40 mark, and even if you don't know Portuguese, you can feel the heat in his voice.

"First of all, Chael is a criminal," Silva said through Ed Soares, his manager who often serves as his interpreter. "He's been convicted of crimes. He doesn't deserve to be inside the Octagon. And when the time comes and the time is right, I'm going to break his face and break every one of his teeth in his mouth."

Silva is referring to Sonnen's guilty plea in a mortgage fraud case that happened just months after Silva beat Sonnen with a fifth-round submission at UFC 117.

It wasn't the end of Silva's verbal beatdown of Sonnen.

"I'm going to beat Chael like he's never been beaten before. The joke is over. There's no more talking. I know he's on the line listening, and the game is over. I'm going to beat his [expletive] out of the UFC. He's never going to want to fight again after I'm done with him."

Sonnen offered few retorts for Silva, save a reference to an earlier comment he made about Silva's wife cooking him a steak after Sonnen won the fight.

"He says he's going to break my face? I have two words for you: medium rare."

Halfway through the call, Silva disappeared. With his opponent gone, Sonnen hung up, too. UFC president Dana White ended the call, and then tweeted, "7 years in the UFC and I've never heard Anderson talk like this before!!!"

[Related: Roy Nelson makes interesting proposal to face Mike Russow]

There is only one plausible reason for this Anderson to have shown up. The real Anderson has an evil twin named Andreson. Anderson turns to Andreson when he wants to avoid conference calls, and tells him to let loose. Andreson read through everything Sonnen has said about his twin brother, and let it out. Then, at UFC 148, both men will show up at the fight just to confuse Sonnen.

Or maybe, just maybe, Silva got sick of holding it. Two weeks before the fight, he's letting it out, which is an interesting sign of things to come on July 7.

Badr Hari Easily Beats Overmatched Gregory Tony

by Michael David Smith

Badr Hari, the bad boy of kickboxing who hadn't fought in a year, finally returned to the ring on Saturday and easily beat an overmatched and uninterested opponent, the French boxer Gregory Tony at an It's Showtime event in France.

Hari won by first-round TKO, knocking Tony down three times without ever really hitting him all that hard. Tony looked like he didn't really want to be in the ring with Hari, and the matchup of Hari and Tony seemed like a generally bad idea: Tony isn't in Hari's class as a kickboxer, and Tony was also fighting just a week after he had two boxing matches on the same day, winning one and losing the other. A fight like this wouldn't get sanctioned by an American state athletic commission.

Dana White?s video blog shows Gray Maynard and Clay Guida?s war of words went on after the fight

Though Clay Guida and Gray Maynard fought for five rounds, their rivalry didn't end with the sound of the final horn. FX cameras showed them jawing as they walked out of the cage after Maynard was announced the winner on Friday night. Dana White's video blog caught their war of words continuing during post-fight medicals. Skip to the 8:30 mark, and as always, be prepared for salty language.

Something tells me this isn't the last time we'll see these two fight. Now that you've watched Guida and Maynard's jawing, go back to see these moments:

-- Though Guida is the "Carpenter," Frankie Edgar may now be the "Electrician." He was called in to turn on a television.

-- After getting his hands taped, Ramsey Nijem quips, "I guess I gotta fight now."

-- "I want to walk." After losing to Steven Siler, Joey Gambino was in no mood to get into a stretcher.

-- Cub Swanson's "Rocky" imitation is spot on.

Thinking Deeply Again

My attention span is like a freely spinning frisbee.

The Goblin Brownie is in happy Netflix Land in the other room, and in a few moments the Leprechaun & Elf will be home. My time alone will be over. I've been rethinking how I spend my time lately and wishing I had tighter control of it. Of course, my brain's a freely spinning frisbee heading to parts unknown, but perhaps with a bit of effort I can rein it in and have more to show for my day?other than errands and work.

I need to live with greater purpose. I'm not as distracted as I am unfocused at the moment. I have goals, but I have to admit that my depression and this divorce have buried much of the enthusiasm I usually have for life. I'm surviving, but I'm not tackling my goals with passion, determination & focus. I want to change that.

So today I will write another 1000 words and blog and cook dinner and wash laundry and pick up the house and exercise with the kids and do basically everything. Because I have to, and because I can. Then maybe I can start to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Because sitting here feeling blah isn't helping me get anything done. And getting things done is how I determine whether I have any value or not.

~D?

Update: I forgot that the Brownie dislikes being called the Goblin. I upgraded her name only recently at her request. Please don't tell her I slipped up. Shhhh!

Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao moved to UFC 149 after injury to Jose Aldo

The UFC's game of musical chairs continues, as Jose Aldo's bout with Erik Koch for the main event of UFC 149 has been scrapped because of an injury to Aldo. Urijah Faber's bout with Renan Barao was moved to the main event at 149 from being the co-main event at UFC 148.

This is the second change to Faber's bout this summer. After coaching against bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz on "The Ultimate Fighter," the two were slated to face off at UFC 148 in Las Vegas. Now, it's Faber vs. Barao for the interim belt at UFC 149 in Calgary.

It's also the latest in a string of main event changes to UFC events. This summer, the main event at UFC 146 was supposed to feature Alistair Overeem vs. Junior dos Santos, but Overeem's inability to get a license in Nevada gave Frank Mir a chance. UFC 147 was supposed to be at a soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro for Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva's rematch. After the UFC couldn't get a venue, the bout was moved to UFC 148.

The bad luck continued for UFC 147 as main eventer Vitor Belfort was injured and Rich Franklin had to fill in. UFC on Fox 4 was also hit as Brian Stann's shoulder injury forced him out of the main event against Hector Lombard. Maurico "Shogun" Rua, who was free because of an injury to his UFC 149 opponent Thiago Silva, will now fight Brandon Vera in the main event of the UFC's fourth Fox show.

Even for a sport as dangerous as MMA, that's a crazy run of bad luck. Can the UFC do anything to prevent injuries? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
