Next month's Strikeforce event has taken a hit, as former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh Thomson has been forced out of a bout with Maximo Blanco due to injury, according to multiple published reports.

It's another in a long line of injury problems for Thomson. The 32-year-old's most notable injury issue came in 2009 when a broken ankle cost him two separate bookings against Gilbert Melendez. He ultimately lost his title upon returning from injury in a five round classic with Melendez.

Thomson went 2-1 in 2010, the most fights he had in a year since 2006. However, he hasn't fought since December, and will be delayed in his return even further with this latest setback.

There's no word if Blanco will be kept on the card, but they will likely attempt to find him another opponent for his United States debut.

Penick's Analysis: I was really looking forward to this fight, and it would have been a really good lightweight fight for the card, so it's a shame that the card is losing a strong fight. It's even worse for Thomson, who continues to be ravaged by injuries in this stage of his career that could really affect his longevity. Hopefully he's not out too long and hopefully Strikeforce can find Blanco a suitable replacement opponent.
